How is this a bad thing? This is hinestly good character and world building that should be done more often, like Calkner and flint being rivals, so they each have counters to each others teams, like the Octillery and Steelix

This is not a surprise at all. I have honestly never played any of the games after Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald. Because in my opinion, they look like dog shit. That’s when they started running out of ideas for new Pokémon & the ones that were made because of that fact are horrible. Oh yeah, Pokémon Crystal Version is my all time favorite.

Lets be honest if sinnoh wanted a fire specialist,it would make sense for them to be like the 2nd gym leader as then using ponyta and rapiddash would make sense as misty did use Pokémon from one evo line as well. Then again that would make piplip thd best starter in sinnlh

Volkner not having the single type for his gym makes sense because the game not-so-subtly hints at him very obviously not wanting to be the gym leader. Volkner walked so Larry could run.

Man I thought it was obvious. But I’ve playing since 98 when my friend got a blue version so I got a red version and played every game from beginning. Sinnoh gyms/E4 were kinda wack the first time around in DP. That said i think its fair for any gym/E4 to have ONE pokemon thats not the same type so long as it A) fits in thematically i.e. Banette could fit on a dark team, gyarados on dragon, flygon or hisuian goodra on bug B) has access to a half way decent move move of said type specialty. I mean with flint steelix makes since given the intense pressure from borrowing deep underground hardens onix, drifbloon is a hot air balloon and lopunny.... actually have zero idea how it fits in. But yea nothing wrong with having one pokemon that doesnt share the type speciality if it makes sense. Usually in the main line games they dont tho barring gen 1 simply because of the lack of pure ice its just water/ice, limited and terrible fighting types, 1 line of ghost pokemon, 1 line of dragon pokemon.

It might actually make things more interesting if gym leaders were allowed to have some other type pokemon to fill in their gaps.

I never got any of these events as a kid because I never knew they existed. :(

I actually like the idea of Gym Leaders using their favorite Pokémon. Mono type gyms are too obvious for what you need to beat them. How else can you change that up than by having only most of the Pokémon be that type?

Crystal will always be my favorite. I know it gets hate, but it felt just long enough and not too long

I like mono running with Bedrill, so while everyone is trying to catch Mankey or Nidoran, I'm hoping to poison Geodude. It's not fun

But they all had elemental moves that matched the typing! Its the same concept as Champion Lance having 5 non dragons when he is a "dragon" trainer. They all had either Dragon Dance, Dragon Claw, Dragon Rage or Dragon Breath.

GameFreak has always had massive issues with Type distribution and balance.

Vermilion Gym is the worst* if you ask me. Two randomly hidden switches, almost no info on how to find them and if you miss either one you have to start over. Unlike the gyms in Sinnoh, this was never replaced with something better. Also I don't think Veilstone Gym's puzzle is that bad. The one in Platinum is cooler, but it's still a decent puzzle. *This doesn't count the gyms in Galar and Paldea, which are lackluster but not frustrating.
